Neko Case @ The Annandale

I've been obsessively listening to Neko Case lately, in part due to my excitement about her upcoming tour (even crazily making a mix CD for her) and last night she did not disappoint.
She was last here in 2003 supporting Nick Cave and now I finally got the opportunity to see her. It was one of those situations where I really got into her albums right after she toured which was very annoying as it seems to happen to me often.
The only thing I'm actually disappointed about is that I can't go see her tonight because I already have prior plans to go see the Leonard Cohen documentary at the Chauvel.
She opened her set with the song 'A Widow's Toast' and from then on, you just knew you were seeing something special. I probably spent most of the show in awe of Neko and her amazing voice which just hooks you.
While her set was predominantly songs from Fox Confessor Brings The Flood, she played a number of songs from Blacklisted, The Tigers Have Spoken and Furnace Room Lullaby. She even fit in a cover of Bob Dylan's 'Buckets Of Rain'.
I managed to get her copy of the setlist after the show but it seems there was no prearranged order. There was a list of songs, some of which were played, some of which weren't such as 'In California' from the Canadian Amp EP.
She ended the night with a second and final encore, covering Buffy St Marie's 'Soulful Shade Of Blue', ending a great night overall watching a amazing artist.
If you haven't already heard of you, you really should listen and then get annoyed (if you're in the cities that have already hosted her) that you'll probably have to wait a couple more years to see her again.

It was a great gig! And I was stunned by the silence she was able to inspire in the audience...a rare thing at a Sydney show.

Yep that was me. Ah.

I have now come to the realisation that I need to marry Neko, she is amazing. I would be interested to know what was on your mix tape.

Glad you had a great time. Hold On Hold On is my fave from that album. I do kinda tire of that echo chamber effect on everything on the records though.
