My Top 25 Albums 2007

Since it's unlikely I'll hear a lot of new music while I'm travelling I decided I'd do most of my end of year music lists before I fly out on Monday.

While I have generally done Top 10 lists in the past, due the amount of music I've listened to this year Top 10 rankings would not do them all justice. As a result I've expanded my end of year lists to a Top 25.

So here it is, my Top 25 albums of 2007:

1. Feist – The Reminder

The most perfect album of the year. I cannot think of anything that could be improved.
2. New Buffalo – Somewhere, Anywhere
On her follow up to Last Beautiful Day, Sally Seltmann has stripped away much of her previous folktronic influences, leaving something bare, fragile and beautiful. It would’ve topped this list if it wasn’t for the opener ‘Cheer Me Up Thank You’ which I’m pretty indifferent towards.
3. Arcade Fire – Neon Bible
I think it's pretty clear that when we look back at music in a decade or two, Arcade Fire will rank as one of the greatest bands of this decade. Neon Bible is no Funeral but like Funeral it is a spectacular album with some epic anthems. We can only wait in anticipation for their next album.
4. Andrew Bird – Armchair Apocrypha
I was partial to Andrew Bird until this album made me a full on convert. It is an amazing album that displays his skills as an multi-instrumentalist. I'm glad that I am at least seeing him in New York City as I'll sadly be missing his show in Sydney.
5. Spoon – Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga
A great indie rock album with a bit of soul, Spoon please announce that Australian tour that Pitchfork said you were going to do.
6. Dinosaur Jr - Beyond
7. The Shins – Wincing The Night Away
8. Thurston Moore – Trees Outside The Academy
9. Tim Rogers – The Luxury of Hysteria
10. Bat For Lashes - Fur and Gold
11. Kevin Drew – Spirit If…
12. Okkervil River - The Stage Names
13. Mum – Go Go Smear The Poison Ivy
14. The Brunettes – Structures and Cosmetics
15. Radiohead – In Rainbows
16. Architecture In Helsinki - Places Like This
17. Ryan Adams – Easy Tiger
18. Love of Diagrams - Mosaic
19. The Go! Team – Proof Of Youth
20. LCD Soundsystem – Sound Of Silver
21. Les Savy Fav - Let's Stay Friends
22. Black Rebel Motorcycle Club – Baby 81
23. Björk - Volta
24. St Vincent – Marry Me
25. Pikelet - Pikelet

I'll post my top 25 songs of the year tommorrow.

My top concerts list will be posted closer to the end of the year as I'm seeing a fair few shows over in the States.

What next?

Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga is NEARLY my favourite album of 2007. Love Feist, Andrew Bird and Kevin Drew too, they will all feature near the top of my list. Have a great trip.
