Young Marble Giants

It's so easy to overlook bands. I have an annoying habit where I finally listen to a band I've been meaning to and become an instant fan. Then I start wondering why it took you so long to get around to them and discover they've just toured.
One of my latest discoveries has been Young Marble Giants, a Welsh post-punk band from the late 1970's, consisting of Alison Statton and brothers Stuart and Phillip Moxham, Galaxie 500's cover of 'Final Day' leading me to them.
In a sense they were lo-fi before it came to exist as a musical genre, creating their music with the assistance of a home-made drum machine and synthesiser. The rough recording and the fragile simplicity of their songs just adds to the atmosphere of their sound. It's funny how less can be more sometimes.
With the release of a deluxe version of Colossal Youth by Domino Records, they've started touring again and there's the possibility of a new album soon. I'm hesitant about any reunion followed by new album as few bands have pulled it off (Mission of Burma being one of the exceptions) but for now I'm just enjoying Colossal Youth and am glad that haven't just toured.
