I have a feeling that Songs In A&E by Spiritualized will end up on my Top 5 list at the end of the year. So far there hasn't been anything that's really made me stop and pay attention until now.

It's evident from the first single off the album, 'Soul On Fire', that underlying all their new songs is a sense of fragility. Orchestral and soulful at times, the songs seem fitting for a montage for someone on their deathbed. It's clear that Jason Pierce's battle with illness was a strong influence in shaping the songs.

Songs In A&E gets released here on 9 June and I will definitely be getting a copy.

For those waiting for some live Spiritualized action, they also recently did a performance on Mornings Become Eclectic which can be watched. They opened with the song 'Sitting On Fire' off Songs In A&E before playing a mix of new and older songs.
