Australia's Greatest Independent Albums Of All Time Poll

On July 4th, the inaugural Independents Day will be happening. Independents Day is a worldwide collection of events and releases celebrating independent music.

Australia is getting in on the act with the Australian Indepedent Records (AIR) Label Associations holding an online auction of memorabillia and doing a poll of people's favourite Australian independent albums of all time.

I was a bit disappointed that Hourly, Daily by You Am I didn't make the final shortlist. In the end, I voted for:

The Saints - I'm Stranded (single)
The Go-Betweens -Liberty Bell And The Black Diamond Express
Radio Birdman - Radios Appear
The Avalanches - Since I Left You
The Triffids - Born Sandy Devotional
Entrants go into the running to win the Top 10 albums as voted by the public.

What next?

I was quite surprised to see my favourite Aus Indie album in the list - the Laughing Clowns "Mr Uddich Schmuddich Goes to Town" - since it has never been released as a stand-alone album on cd and is not terribly easy to get on vinyl. (All the tracks are available on the "Cruel But Fair" compilation though).

I was going to complain about the absence of "Dream It Down" by the Underground Lovers but then remembered that it was on Polydor.
I did however complain about the absence of Crow. My favourite of theirs is another vinyl only one "Sunburnt Throats and Happy Thunderclouds" but I mentioned "My Kind of Pain" which is probably better known.
